District 36 and Basic NYC present Jeff Mills / Radio presents Terrence Dixon, Oliver Ho
I arrived at District 36 with my techno stomping boots, armed and ready to take pictures and video for TGGR’s ustream channel (unfortunately the ustream attempt was not successful). When I walked in Sleepy & Boo were just finishing up and Jeff was getting ready in the background. As the music faded, Jeff wooed the dancefloor with his classic spacey ambient intro. Only the purest techno sounds came from those speakers for a solid 4 hours, blasting through the system at District 36 NYC. Jeff made sure the sounds that came from the speakers were crisp and clear, it was an amazingly technical set with one hand on the 909 and the other directing the discs as he keeps all the levels raised. This man is one of the most amazing DJ’s that I have ever seen and he has never disappointed. He is so graceful and the mixes are seamless as he is constantly moving through the grooves.
Keep an eye out for Jeff Mills’ next album The Power! on Limited Released March 15, 2011
After getting down to some pure detroit techno…
I decided to check out the after party for some more techno fun at Radio presents Terrence Dixon, Oliver Ho. I walked in to Oliver Ho playing “lay you on uh huh, aaaah aahh aahh, yeah” using ableton and evolution for his set. I caught the last hour of Ho’s awesome set and I wish I could have been there sooner. As Oliver Ho played his last track, Terrence Dixon was cueing up his first record. He opened with that classic detroit house sound and came in with “I’m drrawn to you like a moth drawn to a flame, awe girl i can’t resist you… do it for me, i’ll do it for you.” Dixon slammed those records around like they were his bitch. Great track selection the crowd in that place was having every minute of it!
Each venue that the Radio parties are thrown are awesome and unique. This one was a theatre of sort, with a dance stage (rather than floor). The dj booth was much not to be desired, a wood platform that seemed to work well until the records were being played and a simple step too heavy, or a slight bump around the platform sent the needle bouncing.
A very special thanks to Sleepy & Boo, Jeff Mills, Lenny Posso and the Radio Crew, Terrence Dixon, Oliver Ho and all the dancefloor bandits that came to get down! I look forward to our next adventure on the dancefloor!! Wooooo!!!
